Barack Obama for President
In the interest of transportation choice, and a new choice for America, this blog endorses Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States.
We are at a crisis point, and the choice is clear. Drivers face the rapid approach of five-dollar a gallon gas. The airline industry is cutting service and raising fares as it struggles to cope with $130 a barrel oil. Sen. Obama's opponent, Sen. John McCain, has long been a vocal critic of Amtrak and has obstructed progress toward a viable national rail passenger system. In contrast, Sen. Obama states on his Web site, "As president, Barack Obama will continue to fight for Amtrak funding and reform so that individuals, families and businesses throughout the country have safe and reliable transportation options."
Our planet and our country are also at risk from global warming. Sen. Obama supports an effective, market-based cap and trade mechanism to reduce carbon emissions. We have noted here previously that such a mechanism can benefit Amtrak and other carbon-friendly transportation enterprises as net beneficiaries of this free-market approach.
Sen. McCain would like you to believe that he can be an agent of change, but his 26 years in Congress and strong support of failed domestic and foreign policies show him to be just another old-school Washington politician. He's on the wrong side of history.
McCain looks to the past; Obama is our future. On more than policy issues, President Obama will be a game-changer. His election will signal to the world that America is indeed the land of opportunity, equality and freedom that we proclaim it to be.

It's nice to find positive comments regarding Mr. Obama combined with positive comments about Amtrak.
Maybe we are on to something GOOD here?? The country could use some forward thinking and positive change.
Like, maybe funding that makes SENSE??
