It's been about a year and a half since we rode Amtrak's California Zephyr from Chicago to Emeryville, Calif., and the story of that journey in the context of the political climate of the time -- as the Bush administration was attempting to shut Amtrak down -- is fully told in "Amtrak's California Zephyr: The Way West."
